The service to be rendered by the committee members will be strictly on a pro bono basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement explained that the committee\u2019s decision is motivated by President Nana Akufo-Addo\u2019s attitude towards public service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurther, we are determined to religiously be guided by H.E. the President&#8217;s directive for members to be mindful of the difficult financial and economic circumstances of our country, regarding our 60th-anniversary commemoration,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>President Akufo-Addo has already indicated that Ghana\u2019s 60<sup>th<\/sup> Independence Day celebration will be modest owing to the country\u2019s economic situation.<\/p>\n<p>The President gave the assurance when he inaugurated a 30-member committee on Thursday, to oversee the celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Ghana will on 6th March 2017, celebrate its 60th Independence anniversary after gaining independence from Britain in 1957.<\/p>\n<p>The Independence Anniversary Planning will supervise all events and planning processes leading to the celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Other members of the committee include Historians, Professor Irene Odotei and Professor JH Nketiah, Senior Lecturer at the School of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo and a lawyer, Kweku Asirifi.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Find below the full statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>FORFEITURE OF ALLOWANCE(S) BY MEMBERS OF THE 60TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY PLANNING COMMITTEE<\/p>\n<p>The 60th Independence Anniversary Planning committee held its maiden meeting on\u00a0 Saturday, the 28th of January, 2017<\/p>\n<p>At the said meeting, members resolved to forfeit any and all allowance(s) and\/or remuneration which may be due them.<\/p>\n<p>The service to be rendered by the committee members will be strictly on a pro bono basis.<\/p>\n<p>This decision was largely motivated by H.E the President&#8217;s attitude towards public service, that is to say, selfless service to one&#8217;s homeland.
