{"id":287579,"date":"2017-01-24T10:31:28","date_gmt":"2017-01-24T10:31:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=287579"},"modified":"2017-01-24T10:31:28","modified_gmt":"2017-01-24T10:31:28","slug":"dont-be-intimidated-group-tells-minority-mps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=287579","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t be intimidated &#8211; Group tells minority MPs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A group in Tema, \u00a0calling itself the Movement for Democratic and Accountable Governance, MODAG, \u00a0has called on minority MP&#8217;s not to be intimidated as they vet the newly appointed ministerial nominees to serve in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.<\/p>\n<p>According to the group, the posture of some of the newly appointed nominees\u00a0at the vetting leaves much to be desired.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Spokesperson of\u00a0the group, Isaac Kwamy, noted that it was heartbreaking to observe the laid-back approach adopted by some of the members.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is sad that the Chairman of the Appointments Committee has taken a fixed position to defend the newly appointed nominees\u00a0who come before the committee for vetting. This is quite unfortunate&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Kwamy said the Minority members of the Appointments Committee must not be intimidated by the constant interjection and the defensive nature of the majority, but instead be focused on questioning the appointees.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-287581 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/MODAG-2-1024x614.jpeg\" alt=\"modag-2\" width=\"620\" height=\"372\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Until the newly appointees are thoroughly questioned, how can the 27 million plus Ghanaians know their capabilities, strengths, weaknesses as well as their competences.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group also condemned the defensive posture of the appointees saying it will not augur well for the country as their posture tend to take the beauty out of the formation of the Appointment Committee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The appointment committee is there to interview the new appointees, so if they are not allowed to ask the relevant questions and do their work as required, how can we as a country hold them accountable?&#8221; He questioned<\/p>\n<p>The group said it was unethical for Osafo Marfo to remind the\u00a0Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa if his age, in response to\u00a0a question he asked him.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How could the senior minister refer to the age of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa in answering a question posed to him? In any case, what has the wisdom of Solomon got to do with the age of Methusela? &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Mr. Osafo Marfo&#8217;s comment in parliament last week during his vetting was unfortunate and must not be tolerated ever again.
