{"id":284796,"date":"2017-01-14T13:12:46","date_gmt":"2017-01-14T13:12:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=284796"},"modified":"2017-01-14T13:12:46","modified_gmt":"2017-01-14T13:12:46","slug":"kumasi-residents-clean-city-ahead-of-queenmothers-burial-rites-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=284796","title":{"rendered":"Kumasi residents clean city ahead of Queenmothers burial rites [Photos]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Residents in the Kumasi metropolis today, Saturday thronged the streets to clean the city ahead of burial rites of the late Asante Queen mother.<\/p>\n<p>A directive from the Manhyia Palace ordered that all residents join in giving the city a face-lift in terms of sanitation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284805 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/clean-up-in-kumasi-2.jpeg\" alt=\"clean-up-in-kumasi-2\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As part of the directive, all shops are to be opened after 12 midday when cleaning is over.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday primary and Junior High school pupils helped clean the surroundings of the Kumasi Airport, through the Airport roundabout to the Manhyia Palace.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284804 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/clean-up-in-kumasi-1.jpeg\" alt=\"clean-up-in-kumasi-1\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Roads leading to the Central Business District have also been blocked for this purpose.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284803 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/clean-up-in-kumasi-9.jpeg\" alt=\"clean-up-in-kumasi-9\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Kumasi Metropolitan Waste Department&#8217;s direction, Mr. Gorkeh Mia said &#8220;150 waste collecting tricycles have been deployed to take waste off the street after the general cleanup.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284801 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/clean-up-in-kumasi-6.jpeg\" alt=\"clean-up-in-kumasi-6\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The burial rites of the late Asante Queen mother will begin on Monday, 16 to Thursday 19th of this year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-284800 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/clean-up-in-kumasi-4.jpeg\" alt=\"clean-up-in-kumasi-4\" width=\"768\" height=\"576\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Manhyia Palace had ordered that people stay indoors from 7pm of Thursday evening to 4am of Friday morning. This generated fear amongst residents, however, Otumfuo&#8217;s Mawrehene, Baffour Hyeaman Brantuo IV has allayed fears.<\/p>\n<p>He said as tradition demands, &#8220;the journey to the village should go on uninterrupted, that is why we are asking people to stay indoors.
