{"id":281356,"date":"2017-01-03T11:57:36","date_gmt":"2017-01-03T11:57:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=281356"},"modified":"2017-01-03T11:57:36","modified_gmt":"2017-01-03T11:57:36","slug":"unpaid-getfund-contractors-picket-at-finance-ministry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=281356","title":{"rendered":"Unpaid GETFund contractors picket at Finance Ministry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Contractors working on Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects, today (Tuesday), picketed at the Ministry of Finance to\u00a0demand monies owed them by the government.<\/p>\n<p>The protesting contractors gathered at the GETFund head office and later made their way to the Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/452166b3-1ac2-4d2e-ab59-e7ab25b267cd.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-281361\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/452166b3-1ac2-4d2e-ab59-e7ab25b267cd.jpg\" alt=\"GETFund officce\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The contractors say government owes them over GHc 300 million spanning a period of six months.<\/p>\n<p>Managers of the GETFund have however blamed the Ministry of Finance for its inability to pay contractors who the Fund says it owes close to GHc 300 million.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/498a9f98-fa90-4fca-9e87-4a8c5dd5c57a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-281368\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/498a9f98-fa90-4fca-9e87-4a8c5dd5c57a.jpg\" alt=\"498a9f98-fa90-4fca-9e87-4a8c5dd5c57a\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Managers of the Fund have indicated that, until the Ministry of Finance releases money to them, they cannot pay the contractors.<\/p>\n<p>When the contractors made their way to the Finance Ministry, one of the protesters,\u00a0Daniel Tanor,\u00a0said they had heard from the Deputy Finance Minister, Casiel Ato Forson, and he said his ministry only owed the &#8220;<span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">GETFund GHc 106, 000 and that they have released that money.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/f1cb8bef-9db1-4973-8b16-3d2b64bdebb6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-281366\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/f1cb8bef-9db1-4973-8b16-3d2b64bdebb6.jpg\" alt=\"f1cb8bef-9db1-4973-8b16-3d2b64bdebb6\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Philip Nii Lartey, Mr. Tanor, however, expressed doubt in Mr. Forson&#8217;s assertion saying \u201cit is never true that is what the Ministry of Finance is owing the GETFund\u2026 We believe what Ato Forson is saying is really not the issue.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">He maintained that the protesters may finally march to the presidency\u00a0as thier\u00a0last resort.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Georgia','serif'; color: #333333;\">&#8220;The President is the last person and we are trying all within in our capacity to meet the relevant authorities, and if it fails then we will hit the President\u2019s premises, the FlagStaff House,\u201d Mr. Tanor said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Photos:\u00a0Philip Nii Lartey<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contractors working on Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) projects, today (Tuesday), picketed at the Ministry of Finance to\u00a0demand monies owed them by the government.
