{"id":279729,"date":"2016-12-26T13:24:48","date_gmt":"2016-12-26T13:24:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=279729"},"modified":"2016-12-26T13:24:48","modified_gmt":"2016-12-26T13:24:48","slug":"adherence-to-safety-critical-for-fuel-stations-fire-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=279729","title":{"rendered":"Adherence to safety critical for fuel stations &#8211; Fire Service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/22\/fire-alert-gas-station-at-labadi-explodes-photos\/\">recent Labadi gas explosion<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in Accra has revived the debate around the location of fuel stations in residential areas, but the Fire Service has said\u00a0enforcing safety measures will reduce the fire incidents.<\/p>\n<p>After the June 3 disaster, the National Petroleum Authority said it had put in effective measures to enforce and tighten relevant regulations on the building of fuel stations in residential areas.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mhrwORG3PYmSkOFbwjgATPxEMU4ZWikJ&#8221;]Labadi gas explosion, which has claimed 10 lives so far, has left many people, including President-elect Nana Akufo-Addo, calling for a strict enforcement such regulations to avert any future disaster.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary investigations have pointed to a leakage at the\u00a0station which led to the explosion according to the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, Prince Billy Anaglate.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> Mr. Anaglate said enforcing strict safety measures will go a long way to prevent such disasters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not\u00a0about the siting of the filling stations; it is about the lack of maintenance or safety measures put in place. If you are able to ensure that safety measures are put in place and are maintained, you have reduced the hazards associated to the barest minimum. So it is not about the siting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_0398.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-138290\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_0398.jpg\" alt=\"Prince Billy Anaglatey\" width=\"620\" height=\"413\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_0398.jpg 620w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/IMG_0398-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Anaglate indicated that the Fire Service had in place a system to train staff of filling stations but he noted that without the training, such staff &#8220;wouldn\u2019t have what it takes to identify hazards within the premises, let alone knowing what mitigating factors to put in place when they identify the hazard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So those people may be responsible for some these preventable fires that might be caused.
