{"id":275873,"date":"2016-12-10T19:00:12","date_gmt":"2016-12-10T19:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=275873"},"modified":"2016-12-10T19:00:12","modified_gmt":"2016-12-10T19:00:12","slug":"i-wouldve-loved-to-do-more-for-ghana-mahama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=275873","title":{"rendered":"I would&#8217;ve loved to do more for Ghana \u2013 Mahama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President John Mahama would have cherished an opportunity to do more for Ghanaians, he says.<\/p>\n<p>Although he served only a four-year term, the President said he is certain he had done his bit in contributing to the political, social and economic development of the county.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post on Saturday [December 10], the President expressed appreciation to God and Ghanaians for the opportunity to lead the country.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FJDMahama%2Fposts%2F1420459551298530&amp;width=500\" width=\"500\" height=\"256\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>John Mahama of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) lost in his bid to lead the country for a second four-year term to the leader of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo in a historic general election held on Wednesday, December 7.<\/p>\n<p>Nana Akufo-Addo garnered 5,716,026 of total votes cast representing 53.85 per cent while John Dramani Mahama polled\u00a04,731,277 votes representing 44.40 per cent.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_275743\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-275743\" style=\"width: 640px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-275743\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/09a7f157-f500-4dab-8b30-e6b9f1712d6c.jpg\" alt=\"President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo\" width=\"640\" height=\"446\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-275743\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">President-elect, Nana Akufo Addo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Ahead of the official declaration of results by the Electoral Commission, President John Mahama called on Nana Akufo-Addo to conceded defeat and congratulate him on his victory.<\/p>\n<p>In a subsequent press address, he said, assured Ghanaians and ensuring a smooth transition of government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will like to assure the people of Ghana of my commitment to the sustenance of our country\u2019s democracy and we will work to ensure a smooth transition of our incoming administration. I remain committed to the unity and stability of our great nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been without a doubt, one of the most tremendous privileges of my life to serve this great nation as President and to work on behalf of all Ghanaians.
