{"id":273905,"date":"2016-12-04T06:05:27","date_gmt":"2016-12-04T06:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=273905"},"modified":"2016-12-04T06:05:27","modified_gmt":"2016-12-04T06:05:27","slug":"phase-2-of-special-voting-takes-place-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=273905","title":{"rendered":"Phase 2 of special voting takes place today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The second phase of the special voting exercise is expected to start at 7:00am today, [Sunday], December 4, in all designated Polling Stations across the country.<\/p>\n<p>The first day of the special voting exercise on Thursday, December 1, recorded a turnout rate of 72.69 percent representing 92,231 of 126,875 registered persons, according to provisional figures from the Electoral Commission (EC).<\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of early\u00a0voters, mostly security personnel, in the various regions, queued at polling stations across the country on Thursday, but\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/12\/01\/hundreds-likely-to-be-disenfranchised-in-special-voting-photos\/\">could not cast<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>their ballots during the exercise.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_9109_800x449.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-273378\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_9109_800x449.jpg\" alt=\"img_9109_800x449\" width=\"800\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some persons were notified they were supposed to vote outside their original\u00a0constituencies and were thus turned away by the Returning Officers.<\/p>\n<p>Following this, the EC, at an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on that evening, decided to extend the special voting exercise to today, December 4, to allow persons who couldn\u2019t vote to do so.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission has also reminded that persons whose names are on the special voters&#8217; list will not be allowed to vote on Wednesday, December 7, and must take the opportunity to do so now.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_9117_800x449.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-273383\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/IMG_9117_800x449.jpg\" alt=\"img_9117_800x449\" width=\"800\" height=\"449\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This extension will be for persons whose names were included in the earlier special voters&#8217; list or the updated one provided to political parties.<\/p>\n<p>Persons who transferred their votes and whose names appeared on the special voters&#8217; list, but could not vote on December 1, 2016, were also factored into the extension.<\/p>\n<p>Persons who did not transfer their votes, but whose names appeared on the special voters&#8217; list in the constituency where they are registered to vote, comprise the final category of persons expected to benefit from the extension of the special voting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali\u00a0Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The second phase of the special voting exercise is expected to start at 7:00am today, [Sunday], December 4, in all designated Polling Stations across the country.
