{"id":265064,"date":"2016-11-04T07:17:50","date_gmt":"2016-11-04T07:17:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=265064"},"modified":"2016-11-04T07:17:50","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T07:17:50","slug":"millions-duped-by-facebook-live-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=265064","title":{"rendered":"Millions duped by Facebook Live video"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Yet again, a &#8220;live&#8221; video on Facebook has brought in millions of views and reactions to something which is not what it claims to be.<\/p>\n<p>In the same vein as the &#8220;live&#8221; space walk that wasn&#8217;t live &#8211; broadcast on 26 October on the social network &#8211; a video of a sky-high maintenance job has racked up over six million views.<\/p>\n<p>The Facebook pages for Interestinate and USA Viral this afternoon each posted a video claiming to be of a lightbulb being changed at the top of a 1,999ft (609m) tower.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"media-landscape no-caption full-width\"><span class=\"image-and-copyright-container\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"responsive-image__img js-image-replace\" src=\"http:\/\/ichef.bbci.co.uk\/news\/624\/cpsprodpb\/1710A\/production\/_92247449_01656b57-e8de-4522-8a15-0b42f1662d0a.jpg\" alt=\"Screengrab of USA Viral's copy of the video\" width=\"494\" height=\"464\" data-highest-encountered-width=\"624\" \/><\/span><\/figure>\n<p>It claimed the video was live and four hours long. It wasn&#8217;t and isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>Not live, not recent<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s roughly 18 minutes long, but looped for four hours, a tactic used by the Viral USA page with the space walk video. Unlike the space walk, the video was not said to be from any particular body or organisation.<\/p>\n<p>The earliest copy we could find on YouTube was published on 21 September 2015 at 16:38 UTC. Look at the screengrab at the top of the page: 251,000 reactions, six million views, more than 54,000 shares, and each one of those turning up in the timeline of other Facebook users.<\/p>\n<p>Live video &#8211; risk and reward<\/p>\n<p>Facebook has seen its finances improve on the back of the potential of live video as a revenue stream.
