{"id":261966,"date":"2016-10-26T11:28:52","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T11:28:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261966"},"modified":"2016-10-26T11:28:52","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T11:28:52","slug":"parliament-approves-oti-bless-ministerial-nomination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261966","title":{"rendered":"Parliament approves Oti Bless&#8217; ministerial nomination"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Parliament has approved the nomination of John Kwabena Bless Oti as the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development.<\/p>\n<p>The approval comes after the Minority had led the charge for the suspension of his approval over comments he made against Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Wood on Accra-based Montie FM in July 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News&#8217;<\/strong> Duke Mensah Opoku reported from the House that the\u00a0process for his approval today [Wednesday] was not met with by any opposition.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/parliament-house_600x400-600x330.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-231324\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/parliament-house_600x400-600x330.jpg\" alt=\"parliament-house_600x400-600x330\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Minority&#8217;s opposition to Mr. Bless Oti&#8217;s\u00a0approval stemmed from the emergence of audio of him\u00a0verbally attacking the Supreme Court on the same Montie FM \u2018Pampaso\u2019 programme, that infamously saw the host of the show and two panelists\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/27\/montie-panelists-mugabe-jailed-4-months\/\">imprisoned for contempt<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bless Oti, also the Nkwanta North Member of Parliament, accused the Chief Justice of \u201cconniving\u201d with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in an attempt to reverse the election results in 2008 and in 2012 among other allegations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;I was misled&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bless Oti later <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/05\/oti-bless-apologises-to-his-mother-chief-justice\/\">issued an apology<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to the Chief Justice and members of the judiciary for the derogatory comments he made against them.<\/p>\n<p>This followed a directive from the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Doe Adjaho, for deliberations over his nomination to be put on hold until the Nkwanta North MP\u00a0apologised for the comments he made.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Bless Oti also explained that he had been \u2018misled\u2019 to make the comments he did adding that he was carried away by the moment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was misled in a way as a young guy with youthful exuberance, you can understand. That is not my nature, that\u2019s not how I was \u00a0brought up, I\u2019ll plead that it won\u2019t happen again. This will be the last time.
