{"id":261185,"date":"2016-10-24T11:14:29","date_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:14:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261185"},"modified":"2016-10-24T11:14:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-24T11:14:29","slug":"five-die-in-malta-plane-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=261185","title":{"rendered":"Five die in Malta plane crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Five people have died after their plane crashed at Malta International Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The small aircraft, a twin-prop Metroliner, crashed around 07:30 (05:30 GMT), shortly after taking off from Luqa airport on a flight to Libya.<\/p>\n<p>The victims&#8217; nationalities have not been released.<\/p>\n<p>Early reports that they were officials from the EU&#8217;s border agency have been denied. <a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Frontex\/status\/790453674539683840\">Frontex<\/a> said the plane was &#8220;not deployed by&#8221; them and said &#8220;none of their staff were involved&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Malta International Airport officials <a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maltairport.com\/\">released a statement confirming the deaths<\/a>. The airport is closed &#8220;until further notice&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"story-body__link-external\" href=\"http:\/\/www.timesofmalta.com\/articles\/view\/20161024\/local\/aircraft-crashes-in-luqa.628979\">Eyewitnesses told the Times of Malta<\/a> that it took off before turning on its side and going &#8220;straight down into the ground&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Video shot from another plane at the airport shows flames and thick black smoke billowing from the site of the crash, next to the runway.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five people have died after their plane crashed at Malta International Airport.
