{"id":258911,"date":"2016-10-17T06:15:54","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T06:15:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=258911"},"modified":"2016-10-17T06:15:54","modified_gmt":"2016-10-17T06:15:54","slug":"gcpp-sues-ec-over-disqualification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=258911","title":{"rendered":"GCPP sues EC over disqualification"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Disqualified presidential nominee of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), \u00a0Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey has filed an injunction suit seeking to stop all electoral processes ahead of the December elections.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Henry Lartey was <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/10\/ayarigas-apc-ppp-pnc-others-disqualified-from-2016-polls\/\">disqualified by the Commission<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, alongside 12 other aspirants, for not providing the personal records of his running mate among other things.<\/p>\n<p><strong>EC unfairly disqualified us &#8211; Lawyer<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At a press conference held on Thursday, Lawyer\u00a0Maurice Ampaw, who was speaking on behalf of Dr. Lartey had accused the Commission\u00a0of unfairly disqualifying the GCPP flagbearer as it failed to\u00a0alert him to the errors on his forms.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Ampaw\u00a0said the EC Chair was \u201cbehaving like a teacher who has set exams and you have 17 students and 13 are failing and then you are happy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo when they brought the form, you saw it [the errors], you kept quiet, you allowed time to run and you knew that you could bring this thing to their attention within the subsequent period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat will the nation benefit from disqualifying those who have proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are capable of running the affairs of this nation\u2026\u00a0We are telling you that your posture cannot help this country,\u201d \u00a0the lawyer concluded.<\/p>\n<p>He therefore gave the EC till Monday to allow his client to contest or face a lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Konadu also blames EC<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/10\/13\/konadu-blames-ec-for-illegal-disqualification\/\">also demanded<\/a><\/strong><\/span> that the EC allow her to contest the 2016 polls as the Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Party (NDP) following what she described as her \u201cillegal\u201d disqualification from the race.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Sixtus Dong Ullo\/Marian Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Disqualified presidential nominee of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), \u00a0Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey has filed an injunction suit seeking to stop all electoral processes ahead of the December elections.
