{"id":252385,"date":"2016-09-27T08:30:39","date_gmt":"2016-09-27T08:30:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=252385"},"modified":"2016-09-27T08:30:39","modified_gmt":"2016-09-27T08:30:39","slug":"brt-piloting-suspended-over-unregistered-buses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=252385","title":{"rendered":"BRT piloting suspended over unregistered buses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Managers of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service have suspended operations\u00a0a day after the buses were put on the streets for piloting.<\/p>\n<p>This follows concerns over the non-<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/09\/26\/brt-buses-on-test-yet-to-be-insured\/\"><strong>registration<\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0and lack of insurance of the buses and challenges with communication between passengers and the bus drivers.<\/p>\n<p>The BRT transport service commenced test operations on Monday with 9 buses plying the Amasaman \u2013 Achimota \u2013 Circle \u2013Accra route however operators identified challenges with the log system which provided information such as when or where passengers would alight to drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Officials of the BRT system told <strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u00a0that services were also suspended on Tuesday\u00a0to enable them train the drivers on how to use the system to facilitate non-obstructive communication between them and passengers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-252283 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/45a5b8ea-bcd4-4f03-a4bb-c86cbc8ab534.jpg\" alt=\"BRT buses\" width=\"600\" height=\"398\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The buses are expected to be back on the streets on Wednesday, September 28, 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u2018Buses not insured yet\u2019 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Roland Bruce, Marketing and Communications Manager of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong> revealed on Monday that the buses had not been registered and insured yet however will be done by the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>But Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), Sampson Gyamenah on Eyewitness News later that day said the information was not true and that the registration and insurance was being done.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8216;BRT to start business in October&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gyamenah explained that, GAPTE is \u201clooking at the first couple of weeks in October to roll out commercially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Gyamenah explained that, Monday\u2019s operation was a simulation exercise to train operational staff that will be engaged in the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat we did today, was a simulation, more like a training arrangement for our own operational staff and drivers.
