{"id":25175,"date":"2014-06-16T12:06:58","date_gmt":"2014-06-16T12:06:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=25175"},"modified":"2014-06-16T12:09:38","modified_gmt":"2014-06-16T12:09:38","slug":"only-60-of-bece-candidates-make-it-to-shs-ges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=25175","title":{"rendered":"Only 60% of BECE candidates make it to SHS &#8211; GES"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Education Service (GES) has revealed that\u00a0only about 60 percent of students who write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) make it into Senior High Schools (SHS).<\/p>\n<p>The remaining 40 percent either go into informal vocational or technical training or\u00a0learn\u00a0a trade\u00a0while others simply idle.<\/p>\n<p>The Acting Director of the GES, Charles Aheto Tsegah on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> on Monday stated that is outfit is\u00a0still working on a plan\u00a0to enable the students who do not pass the BECE to re-sit the examination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose who want to go into Senior High Schools by all means, there will be an opportunity for them to re-sit and then get a chance to go to secondary school,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>He indicated that basic education in Ghana equips students who are unable to make it into SHS, to survive after Junior High School.<\/p>\n<p>The acting GES boss mentioned that basic school students are given the requisite literacy and numeracy skills as well as \u201csome life skills to go manage with their lives in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He stressed that the 40 percent who do not pass, \u201cin terms of their communication skills, they still have something to go by and they demonstrate other competencies.
