{"id":246739,"date":"2016-09-08T11:05:21","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T11:05:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=246739"},"modified":"2016-09-08T11:05:21","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T11:05:21","slug":"penplusbytes-launches-oil-gas-and-election-project-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=246739","title":{"rendered":"Penplusbytes launches oil, gas project today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Penplusbytes, with support from Ghana Oil and Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG) and International IDEA will officially launch the \u201cGhana Elections 2016 &#8211; Amplifying Oil, Gas and Elections issues\u201d project at the Akroma Plaza Hotel in Takoradi on 8th September, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>The project, which aims at heightening awareness of and strengthening responsiveness to oil and gas governance issues in Ghana has been initiated in response to a need to ensure greater inclusion of Oil and Gas issues in the electoral discourse before, during and after Ghana\u2019s general elections on December 7.<\/p>\n<p>The launch is expected to draw the participation of a cross-section of key stakeholder bodies which include civil society groups, local government representatives, journalists, economists, oil and gas experts, politicians and citizens who are interested in contributing to the prudent management of Ghana\u2019s nascent oil and gas resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGhana Elections 2016: Amplifying Oil &amp; Gas and Election Issues\u201d project is premised on the fact that, since Ghana started producing oil in commercial quantities, political discourse in the sector has been characterized by questions on how much money has accrued from the oil production, what has been done with revenues from the sector, whether investments made with the oil revenues yield any value for the electorates and how to avoid the so called \u2018Oil Curse\u2019 among other issues.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director of Penplusbytes, Kwami Ahiabenu, II, said the during project implementation, Penplusbytes is expected to undertake a number of activities including online\/social media platform set up and running, a voters\u2019 compass, media engagement, bursaries, editors liaison and political parties engagement.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cit is our aim to highlight issues which will to transform the ideologies of the parties into tangible and actionable policies and proposals for the improvement of public scrutiny of Ghana\u2019s extractive sector.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The launch event in Takoradi will also see the outdooring of the online \u201cVoters\u2019 Policy Compass\u201d platform built to allow potential voters to express anonymously their political opinions on a wide array of topics, and see which party or candidate is closer to them, thus giving them advice on which candidate or party is closer to them ideologically.<\/p>\n<p>Though originally an online platform idea, the Voters\u2019 Compass will be modified into a radio phone-in programme which will make room for citizens without online access to share their opinions.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a two-day editors\u2019 liaison in Takoradi to further push the \u201coil and gas issues in elections\u201d agenda in newsrooms during this election period and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<br \/>\nSource: Penplusbytes<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Penplusbytes, with support from Ghana Oil and Gas for Inclusive Growth (GOGIG) and International IDEA will officially launch the \u201cGhana Elections 2016 &#8211; Amplifying Oil, Gas and Elections issues\u201d project at the Akroma Plaza Hotel in Takoradi on 8th September, 2016.
