The Bui Power Authority had to\u00a0halt operations at the dam due to the low quantity of the water in the\u00a0dam’s\u00a0reservoir.<\/p>\n
According to the BPA, this measure\u00a0is to ensure the turbines running at the dam were protected from any further damage.<\/p>\n
This is why the Minority Spokesperson on energy is predicting a prolonged load sheding exercise.<\/p>\n
According to Mr Hammond, the\u00a0reduction\u00a0in generation capacity at the Bui dam means \u201cwe are going to have double dose of the \u201cDumsor-Dumsor\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
He further revealed that, the shutdown was expected, and that \u201cit was not even the short-term or mid-term\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u00a0however encouraged government to handle the situation properly or risk the energy system in the country collapsing.<\/p>\n
Ghana\u2019s energy demand currently stands at over 2000 megawatts (MW)\u00a0and this figure according to the energy minister is expected to grow to 2200 this year.<\/p>\n
