{"id":242197,"date":"2016-08-23T13:19:40","date_gmt":"2016-08-23T13:19:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=242197"},"modified":"2016-08-23T13:19:40","modified_gmt":"2016-08-23T13:19:40","slug":"gcb-bullion-van-police-robbers-remanded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=242197","title":{"rendered":"GCB Bullion van &#8216;police robbers&#8217; remanded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An Accra magistrate court has remanded the two police men alleged to have attempted to rob an Nkawkaw GCB bullion van, leading to the death of the van driver.<\/p>\n<p>The two, Corporal Elvis Mensah and Lance Corporal Daniel Kissi, have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, and\u00a0murder.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;VM788JvStxHuYifBC5OaijmeTIyhaeQv&#8221;]Their attempted robbery <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/17\/3-arrested-over-attack-on-gcb-bullion-van-driver-killed\/\">led to the death<\/a><\/strong><\/span> of the driver, David Kofi Sarpong, aged 52, \u00a0after a heated exchange of gunfire between the police officer in the van and the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>The two were arrested following the incident, but they <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/18\/we-dont-know-whereabouts-of-gcb-bullion-van-attackers-police\/\">subsequently escaped<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>The escape of the two <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/08\/18\/police-flee-post-as-residents-protest-over-escape-of-gcb-van-attackers\/\">led to clashes<\/a><\/strong><\/span> between the police and angry residents in the Afram Plains district, who alleged\u00a0that the Police allowed the\u00a0suspects to escape.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Afram Plain protests<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The initial escape led to protests in Donkorkrom, Maame Krobo and Tease with the protesters vandalizing the police station and some properties.<\/p>\n<p>Police in the areas fled their post following demonstrations.
