Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Charlotte Osei has said\u00a0she will not vote in Ghana’s 2016 elections.<\/p>\n
Speaking in an interview on Metro TV\u2019s Good Evening Ghana, the EC chair said \u201cI will not be voting on the election day like you because I don\u2019t want to. It is not compulsory, it is a special privilege.”<\/p>\n
She further admonished Ghanaians to vote based on issues in the December general elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cWho to vote for is entirely up to you but I would say that vote based on issues and where you want to see this country go and who you think can take this country there,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n
Charlotte Osei\u2019s immediate past predecessor, Dr. Kwadwo Afari Gyan had also refrained from casting his vote for the over two decades he was chairman of the commission.<\/p>\n
Some believe such decisions are taken because the various chairpersons try to be neutral and not taking sides in the political race.<\/p>\n
Double voting will be difficult<\/strong><\/p>\n She also used the opportunity explain some measures put in place by the commission to ensure a free and fair elections.<\/p>\n Charlotte Osei noted that the commission has adopted stricter measures to prevent double voting in the polls.<\/p>\n She also said, the commission is collaborating with the National Commission for Civic Education to embark on a massive education drive to ensure the reduction in spoilt and rejected ballots.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
