{"id":236686,"date":"2016-08-04T13:09:53","date_gmt":"2016-08-04T13:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=236686"},"modified":"2016-08-04T13:09:53","modified_gmt":"2016-08-04T13:09:53","slug":"nduom-signs-petition-to-keep-montie-3-in-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=236686","title":{"rendered":"Nduom signs petition to keep Montie 3 in jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The founder and flagbearer of the Progressive People&#8217;s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has signed the petition urging President John Mahama to respect the judgement of the Supreme Court against the Montie Three.<\/p>\n<p>The PPP started the petition as counter point to the &#8220;free Montie three&#8221; movement demanding a presidential pardon for the three pro-government communicators.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/c1528147-4973-4fb0-a011-8c7385e2b577.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-236690\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/c1528147-4973-4fb0-a011-8c7385e2b577.jpg\" alt=\"c1528147-4973-4fb0-a011-8c7385e2b577\" width=\"600\" height=\"721\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The three, Godwin Ako Gunn, Alistair Nelson and Maase Salifu were jailed four-months for criminal contempt of the Supreme Court after threatening the lives of Justices.<\/p>\n<p>Following their incarceration, their lawyers presented a petition to the Presidency\u00a0n a bid to persuade President Mahama to activate his prerogative of mercy powers under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_0167.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-236313\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/IMG_0167.jpg\" alt=\"Montie, Vigil\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A group calling itself the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP) also did same.\u00a0The RAP petition received\u00a0public support from notable Government appointees and officials of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).<\/p>\n<p>But the PPP believe it will be wrong for the President to respond positively to the &#8220;free Montie three&#8221; petitions and essentially want their petition to reinforce the Supreme Court\u2019s decision to jail them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/OyeLithur-Montie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-235967\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/OyeLithur-Montie.jpg\" alt=\"OyeLithur Montie\" width=\"600\" height=\"330\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Policy Advisor for the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw, earlier told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> any decision by the President to revoke the sentencing will \u201cbe a slap in the face of the judiciary\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He cautioned the President will \u201cembolden other future offenders\u201d to take similar action if the three are to receive any sort of presidential pardon.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The founder and flagbearer of the Progressive People&#8217;s Party (PPP), Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom, has signed the petition urging President John Mahama to respect the judgement of the Supreme Court against the Montie Three.
