{"id":234995,"date":"2016-07-28T16:48:27","date_gmt":"2016-07-28T16:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=234995"},"modified":"2016-07-28T16:48:27","modified_gmt":"2016-07-28T16:48:27","slug":"valerie-sawyerr-others-sign-petition-book-to-free-montie-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=234995","title":{"rendered":"Okudzeto, Sawyerr, others sign petition to free Montie 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Deputy Education Minister in charge of tertiary, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and the Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Valerie Sawyerr, on Thursday, joined to sign a petition book, opened on the premises of pro-government station Radio Gold, ostensibly to pile pressure on President Mahama, to free the Montie FM trio, jailed by the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<p>The three; Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn and\u00a0Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, were sentenced to serve<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/27\/montie-panelists-mugabe-jailed-4-months\/\"> four months in jail<\/a><\/strong><\/span> on Wednesday, after they were found guilty of contempt charges.<\/p>\n<p>This was after they threatened the lives of the judges who were presiding over a\u00a0case on the credibility of the voters\u2019 register. The incumbent NDC leadership in particular has described the <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/27\/ndc-slams-jailing-of-montie-3-urges-members-to-be-calm\/\">sentencing as harsh<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for the convicts have also served notice they will <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/28\/lawyers-to-petition-mahama-to-pardon-montie-3\/\">petition the President <\/a><\/strong><\/span>to pardon them.<\/p>\n<p>Some party members numbering about 30, on Thursday protested at the NDC&#8217;s headquarters asking the President to pardon the three or risk losing their votes in the December polls.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_235108\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-235108\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-235108\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/5af2653b-f97b-422e-81d7-c6d6625f7bc5.jpg\" alt=\"Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-235108\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A group calling itself the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP), which opened the petition book, is pushing the signature collection in a bid to persuade President Mahama to activate his prerogative of mercy powers under Article 72 of the 1992 Constitution.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_235000\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-235000\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-235000 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/15eef830-7583-4d74-a622-8accd72ac1e9.jpg\" alt=\"15eef830-7583-4d74-a622-8accd72ac1e9\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-235000\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Benjamin Dagadu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The petition book has garnered signatures from notable NDC officials and government appointees including Valerie Sawyerr, the\u00a0Deputy Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Benjamin Dagadu and the\u00a0Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare.<\/p>\n<p>The trio were also fined Ghc10,000 each or in default serve an additional one-month jail term.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-235003\" src=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/b3e258a3-e7f8-4c07-b6aa-af8632b84b1a.jpg\" alt=\"b3e258a3-e7f8-4c07-b6aa-af8632b84b1a\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The four\u00a0directors of \u00a0Network Broadcasting Limited, owners of Montie FM;
