{"id":2342,"date":"2014-02-26T08:27:39","date_gmt":"2014-02-26T08:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=2342"},"modified":"2014-02-26T08:43:14","modified_gmt":"2014-02-26T08:43:14","slug":"place-premium-on-education-anis-haffar-tells-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=2342","title":{"rendered":"Place premium on education &#8211; Anis Haffar tells government"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2370\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2370\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/anis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2370\" alt=\"Anis Haffar \" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/anis-300x187.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/anis-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/anis.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2370\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Anis Haffar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>An educationist, Anis Haffar has called for a comprehensive policy to improve the standard of education in the country.<\/p>\n<p>He said education should be treated as a national priority in the manifestos of all political parties seeking power.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to make education a national priority and by national priority what I mean is that there has to be a campaign in this country; a campaign with the same focus, the same enthusiasm and the same effect as we do for political campaigns in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His call came shortly after President John Mahama in his State of the Nation address pledged to build 200 community schools across the country.<\/p>\n<p>According to Anis Haffar, government should begin to redeploy teachers and distribute adequate teaching and learning materials to less endowed schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also very important that the qualities at the teacher training sites are improved not in terms of the theories but in terms of practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He admonished government to motivate teachers who will be redeployed to rural communities to stay in the classroom and deliver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe President also talked about improving the supply of teachers to the districts, that is also key, but people who want to go to the districts have to feel comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the implementation of free education by 2015, he suggested the need for government to concentrate on making education free for brilliant but needy students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEducation is so important, there are those parents who will be able to pay and they should pay; they are those people who cannot pay and this is a dicey issue that has to be addressed in a communication as far as what we expect quality education to be in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He further said free education must commensurate with quality. \u201cFree has to match with quality; the reasons why some parents will not take their children to a school that is free is because the quality is lacking so they will rather find the way to find money to take them to private schools.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An educationist, Anis Haffar has called for a comprehensive policy to improve the standard of education in the country.
