{"id":233553,"date":"2016-07-23T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2016-07-23T06:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=233553"},"modified":"2016-07-23T06:00:24","modified_gmt":"2016-07-23T06:00:24","slug":"tomato-prices-decline-by-10-in-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=233553","title":{"rendered":"Tomato prices decline by 10% in July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The prices of tomato continue to drop on the various markets across the country.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;iWvBEQ4Zlgc9w49d6SLfhWEuQVC9Fkn7&#8243;]According to Esoko Ghana Commodity Index, the price of the commodity recorded the highest drop, that is, 10 percent for the fourth week in July.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, a medium size tin of tomato is now selling at 7 cedis 90 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>This was followed by cassava which recorded 2 percent drop in price to close the week at 6 cedis 90 pesewas for 3 to 4 tubers.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the price of a medium size tin of maize dropped by one percent and it is now selling at 5 cedis 50 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the price of a medium size tuber of yam went up by 5 percent and it is now selling at 8 cedis.<\/p>\n<p>Soyabean and millet followed with 4 and 1 percent gain in prices.<\/p>\n<p>A medium size tin is now selling at 6 cedis 20 pesewas and 5 cedis 60 pesewas per medium size tomato tin respectively.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60486\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60486\" style=\"width: 936px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-60486 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/jun-22.png\" alt=\"jun 22\" width=\"936\" height=\"453\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60486\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Details of the prices of some selected commodities on some major markets across the country<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Meanwhile across the various markets, Esoko reports that the price for a medium size tin of maize dropped by 5 percent in Kumasi to close the week at 6 cedis while in the other markets, the price remained the same.<\/p>\n<p>In a related development, a medium size tomato tin full of fresh tomatoes lost 7 percent in Accra to close the week at 5 cedis 40 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>In Kumasi, the same quantity of the produce also dropped 19 percent to close at 8 cedis 40 pesewa.<\/p>\n<p>In Takoradi, the commodity lost 20 percent to close the week at 16 cedis.<\/p>\n<p>In the other markets, the price remained the same.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>Credit: Esoko Ghana Commodity Index<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The prices of tomato continue to drop on the various markets across the country.
