It is time to ask the state what it has done for us after we have given them part of our powers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A heavy rainstorm that hit Accra and other regions on Thursday rendered residents stranded and homeless.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on <b>Citi FM\u2019s<\/b> News Analysis <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"26dfa7e1-e9be-4478-a13c-88d46468e49c\">Programme<\/span>, <i>The Big Issue<\/i>, Mr. <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"52b7dbb7-3fb1-44d8-801b-a68a1e7b1b5f\">Oppong<\/span> said \u201cthe state has failed to comply with its part of the contract\u201d to serve the populace.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the onus lies on the state to provide citizens with the services which will ensure that citizens do not experience floods. \u201cAs far as I am concerned if the state does what it has to do, there will be an impediment for people to dump refuse in the gutter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also emphasized the need for city authorities to be reminded of their duties.<\/p>\n<p>The floods that hit the nation\u2019s capital have partly been attributed to the continual dumping of rubbish into Accra\u2019s drains.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the same platform, the President of Policy Think Tank, Imani Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe attributed the problem to <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"905917da-e90e-4610-b607-1a6c141ab250\">infrastructural<\/span> challenge, adding that the country needs close to 2 billion to fix its <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"c839234c-624a-4071-9ce0-496e515eb557\">infrastructural<\/span>\u00a0problems.<\/p>\n<p>Offering a solution to the problem, the Editor of Business Finder<span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"17a70e09-15ee-45a0-bd90-950189d62868\">,<\/span>Mr. Toma Amihere proposed that the various districts should account for their internally generated funds to ensure that the funds disbursed to those districts serve its purpose.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/EfeAnsah\" data-show-count=\"false\">Follow @EfeAnsah<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Legal Practitioner, Mr. Yaw Oppong has said residents should not be held responsible for the recent floods that hit certain parts of Accra.
