{"id":233132,"date":"2016-07-21T13:56:16","date_gmt":"2016-07-21T13:56:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=233132"},"modified":"2016-07-21T13:56:16","modified_gmt":"2016-07-21T13:56:16","slug":"julen-lopetegui-appointed-new-spain-coach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=233132","title":{"rendered":"Julen Lopetegui appointed new Spain coach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"sp-story-body__introduction\">Former Porto boss Julen Lopetegui has been named as the new coach of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>The ex-Barcelona goalkeeper, 49, who won one international cap for Spain in 1994, has also coached the nation&#8217;s Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 teams.<\/p>\n<p>He was dismissed by Porto in January and had been linked with English Championship side Wolves,<i class=\"sp-story-body__external-link-icon gelicon gelicon--external\"><\/i> who have been bought by a Chinese groupfor \u00a345m.<\/p>\n<p>Lopetegui replaces Vicente del Bosque, 65, who announced last year that he would retire after Euro 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Del Bosque took charge of the Spain national side in 2008 and guided them to victory at both the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Championship.<\/p>\n<p>He offered to resign after Spain&#8217;s exit at the group stage of the 2014 World Cup, but was convinced to stay.<\/p>\n<p>At Euro 2016, Spain reached the last 16, but were eliminated at that stage as they lost 2-0 to Italy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC Sport<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former Porto boss Julen Lopetegui has been named as the new coach of Spain.
