{"id":232856,"date":"2016-07-20T19:10:40","date_gmt":"2016-07-20T19:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=232856"},"modified":"2016-07-20T19:10:40","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T19:10:40","slug":"we-erred-in-suspending-john-esiape-unicof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=232856","title":{"rendered":"We erred in suspending John Esiape &#8211; UNICOF"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) has admitted to wrongfully suspending its General Secretary, John Esiape.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;vNDrQSTaUuueFjacd29Ity0Ngk2zVkvB&#8221;]A letter dated July 15, 2016 and addressed to the Executive Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC),\u00a0stated that &#8220;the Management Committee of UNICOF <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2016\/05\/16\/unicof-suspends-its-general-secretary\/\" target=\"_blank\">erred by suspending<\/a><\/span><\/strong> the General Secretary, John Esiape.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Portions of the document which has been sighted by <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>\u00a0read,\u00a0\u201cWe hereby accept that we misdirected ourselves and changed the complainant\u2019s interdiction to suspension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It added,\u201cWe shall therefore take the necessary steps to reverse the suspension to interdiction.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the lawyer for John Esiape, Prof. Kenneth Agyeman Attafuah in June, petitioned the NLC over the wrongful application of the regulations on the interdiction and illegal suspension of his client.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>\u00a0also understands that according to the union&#8217;s own regulations, no person or a member of the union would be interdicted beyond six (6) months.<\/p>\n<p>Even though UNICOF has agreed to withdraw the suspension, its\u00a0Chairman, Alex Nyarko \u2013 Opoku insists that \u201cthere is nothing in the complainant\u2019s conditions of service which can restrain any governing body or bodies of UNICOF from initiating disciplinary proceedings against\u00a0Mr. Esiape.<\/p>\n<p>The union insist that,\u201cwhere allegations against is of such a grievous nature and investigations are long to conduct, then the six (6) months would not apply\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Persons with knowledge on the matter tell <strong>Citi Business News\u00a0<\/strong>John Esiape\u2019s suspension follows the alteration of a document by UNICOF\u2019s accountant, who during investigations revealed he was given the go ahead to make the amendments by the General Secretary.<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNICOF must prove allegations\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John Esiape in an earlier interview with <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong> dared the union to <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2016\/07\/13\/unicof-must-prove-allegations-of-malfeasance-it-levelled-against-me-esiape\/\" target=\"_blank\">produce evidence<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to prove allegations of malfeasance it levelled against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are allegations and I am saying that, he who alleges must prove. So if they produce things to prove, they should bring it to our attention but as far as the processes are concerned,I am yet to be confronted with anything that is proof enough of my guilt,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Esiape further intimated he will hurl the union to court over his suspension as he believes the interdiction and suspension is an infringement on his rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have already informed my lawyers on going to court and they are going to advice on the way forward&#8230;The impact of that slanderous publication cannot be addressed unless we to go to court and we will be heading there soon.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>UNICOF dragged to NLC over General Secretary\u2019s suspension<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the Vice Chairman of the Tema region of UNICOF, Isaac Bondorin <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2016\/06\/26\/chairman-drags-unicof-to-nlc-over-general-secretarys-suspension\/\" target=\"_blank\">dragged the union to\u00a0the NLC<\/a><\/strong><\/span> describing the suspension of Mr. Esiape as a wrongful application of the union\u2019s constitution.<\/p>\n<p>He argued among other things possible judgment debts or a complete collapse of the union\u00a0following the act by the management of the union.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI cannot allow the constitution of the union to be handled any how or manipulated for the advantage of certain people that is why I\u2019m taking this action&#8230;As a member of UNICOF I\u2019m duty bound to protect the interest of UNICOF and that is exactly what am doing,\u201d he observed.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013<\/p>\n<p>By: Norvan Acquah-Hayford\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) has admitted to wrongfully suspending its General Secretary, John Esiape.
