{"id":230461,"date":"2016-07-12T18:30:27","date_gmt":"2016-07-12T18:30:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=230461"},"modified":"2016-07-12T18:30:27","modified_gmt":"2016-07-12T18:30:27","slug":"56000-nhis-voters-deleted-from-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=230461","title":{"rendered":"56,000 &#8216;NHIS voters&#8217; deleted from register"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It has emerged that the 56,000 voters whose names were captured on the electoral roll with the National Health Insurance card as proof of Ghanaian citizenship, have\u00a0been deleted in compliance with the Supreme Court\u2019s order.<\/p>\n<p>Sources close to the Commission confirmed this to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> after an Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting held in Accra today [Tuesday].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Sixtus Don Ullo however reported that, the names of the affected persons will be published in the state Newspaper, Daily Graphic on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court, on July 5, ordered the EC to take all the necessary steps <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/05\/delete-56000-nhis-registrants-from-register-court-orders-ec\/\">to delete the list of 56,000<\/a><\/strong><\/span> NHIS registrants it submitted to the court and other names of persons who registered with NHIS cards but were not included in the list it presented to the court.<\/p>\n<p>This followed its <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/05\/supreme-court-orders-ec-to-clean-voters-register\/\">May 5<\/a><\/strong><\/span> ruling asking the EC to expunge from the current voters\u2019 register the names of all persons who registered and voted in the 2012 elections, with the NHIS card as a proof of identity.<\/p>\n<p>The country\u2019s apex court made the order in a case brought before it by former Nation Youth Organiser of the People\u2019s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan and one Evans Nimako who were challenging the credibility of the voters\u2019 register.<\/p>\n<p>The two, among other reliefs, wanted the current register declared inappropriate for the November polls.<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/07\/05\/delete-56000-nhis-registrants-from-register-court-orders-ec\/\">July 5<\/a><\/strong><\/span> ruling was a clarification of the court\u2019s judgment on the voters register delivered on May 5, 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Godwin A.
