{"id":22948,"date":"2014-06-05T15:09:20","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T15:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=22948"},"modified":"2014-06-05T18:20:07","modified_gmt":"2014-06-05T18:20:07","slug":"heavy-downpour-floods-accra-photos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=22948","title":{"rendered":"Heavy downpour floods Accra [Photos\/Video]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Torrential rainfall on Thursday has led to\u00a0flooding in parts of Accra.<\/p>\n<p>The flood waters have rendered many roads almost impassable and also caused heavy vehicular traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Large parts of the Kwame Nkrumah circle, Kaneshie First Light and the Central Business District are completely submerged.<\/p>\n<p>Residents have taken to social media to express their outrage at the situation.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the affected\u00a0roads are \u00a0the roads in North Industrial Area, \u00a0Dadaben Road, Mallam Kokoroko, etc.<\/p>\n<p>&#8221;The situation in Circle is very bad, we hope no life will be Lost Citi you people should go take a look at the road construction at Awoshie.The floods have swallowed parts of it,&#8221; a Facebook comment said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Capture-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-22950\" alt=\"Capture 5\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Capture-5.jpg\" width=\"504\" height=\"402\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Capture-5.jpg 504w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/Capture-5-300x239.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/a>&#8221;There is flooding all over ACCRA again; what are the authorities <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"67123683-33a4-42c0-8071-3eaaba6b04d1\">doin<\/span> about it,&#8221; stated another tweet.<\/p>\n<p>Residents of <em>Accra<\/em> have to brace up for <em>floods<\/em> so long as they live in the city.<\/p>\n<p>This is not\u00a0 the first time Accra has flooded after a few hours of heavy rain. It is believed that the situation has been aggravated by the choked drains in the city as well as the buildings on waterways.<\/p>\n<p>In January 2013, President Mahama cut the sod for a five-year $663,299,496 Accra Sanitary Sewer and Stormwater Drainage Alleviation Project.<\/p>\n<p>The project was aimed at upgrading the sewerage and drainage infrastructure within the Odaw Basin covering, de-silting, dredging, construction of new <span class=\"GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark\" id=\"9e0eaee9-4f83-4a80-be4c-4a27f00b03c2\">siltation<\/span> ponds and the removal of refuse from and complete reconstruction of priority drains and restoration of the Korle Lagoon.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear what stage the project is at but city authorities will have to find innovative solutions to\u00a0prevent further flooding\u00a0as the rains have just started.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jeg_video_container jeg_video_content\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Heavy downpour floods Accra[5\/6\/14]\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tzfki-WODmA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
