The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has revealed it is implementing measures to support the construction sector in the country.<\/p>\n
CIOB is a body that represents construction management\u00a0professionals<\/a>\u00a0who work within the\u00a0built environment<\/a>.<\/p>\n As part of measures to improve upon structures and procedures in the industry, CIOB is creating a regulatory group known as the \u2018Construction Industry Development Authority\u2019 which will control activities of major stakeholders in the \u2018Built Environment\u2019 in Ghana.<\/p>\n Members who are qualified to join the group include planners, plumbers, surveyors and architects.<\/p>\n Chairperson of the Chartered Institute of Building Ghana, Rockson Dobega, in an interview with Citi News stated that the formation of the group will enhance cohesion between key players in the building and construction sector.<\/p>\n \u201cIt will help to coordinate affairs; it will help to put all the players together. It will create some sanity for the construction industry. It will ensure that the industry has a deliberate strategic agenda for growth and development which will position it to compete with foreign companies. It will ensure that we have sustainable technology and material,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Mr. Dobega also commented on some loopholes in the construction sector such as unqualified workers.<\/p>\n He therefore indicated that the formation of the \u2018Construction Industry Development Authority\u2019 will streamline practices in the Built Environment.<\/p>\n \u201cIt will also reduce the amount of shoddy work that is done. It will ensure that contractors or players in the industry are certified properly to perform\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n The \u2018Construction Industry Development Authority\u2019 will also draft a regulatory Act which will later be put before parliament to be passed into a bill.<\/p>\n The bill if given the green light by parliament will see to it that members of the group that flout the rules are sanctioned.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
