Miss Great Britain 2015 has been stripped of her title after having sex on reality television show Love Island.<\/em><\/p>\n

Zara Holland, who won the title last year, is now appearing as a contestant on the ITV<\/em>\u00a0series that\u00a0attempts to match single men and women up in Mallorca with the hope of them forming a relationship.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday night\u2019s episode, Holland was shown being intimate with fellow contestant Alex Bowen. On Thursday, the two told fellow contestants they had sex with each other.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

While Bowen got called a \u201cmuppet\u201d by his male counterparts before being told he\u2019ll \u201cprobably get away with it\u201d, Holland was widely criticised by her housemates.<\/p>\n

Holland was shown visibly upset on Thursday\u2019s episode and said she was \u201cmortified\u201d and\u00a0fearful of being judged.<\/p>\n

The official Miss Britain competition then announced \u201cwith deep regret\u201d that Holland had been \u201cde-crowned\u201d as Miss Great Britain.<\/p>\n

A statement issued by the competition’s organisers said:\u00a0\u201cAlthough Miss Great Britain is the oldest pageant system in the UK, we pride ourselves on promoting the positivity of pageants in modern society and this includes the promotion of a strong, positive, female role model in our winners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe feedback we have received from pageant insiders and members of the general public is such that we cannot promote Zara as a positive role model moving forward.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wholly understand that everyone makes mistakes, but Zara, as an ambassador for Miss Great Britain, simply did not uphold the responsibility expected of the title.\u201d<\/p>\n

The organisation also announced the title had been passed to the first runner up, Deone Robertson. Organisers\u00a0also said they would\u00a0meet Holland when she returns to the UK as she is still taking part in the show and therefore unaware of the decision.<\/p>\n

The decision has prompted widespread outrage, with social media users branding it\u00a0“misogynistic” and criticising\u00a0the organisation for \u201cpublicly condemning a woman for having sex\u201d.<\/p>\n

Miss Great Britain then issued another tweet, saying \u201cthey have no problem with sex\u201d but can\u2019t \u201ccondone what happened on national TV\u201d.<\/p>\n

The show’s presenter, Caroline Flack, came to the contestant\u2019s defence asking if we are \u201cliving in the dark ages\u201d.<\/p>\n

Representatives for Miss Great Britain and ITV<\/em> did not immediately respond to a request for comment<\/p>\n
