{"id":219342,"date":"2016-06-03T06:00:07","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=219342"},"modified":"2016-06-03T06:00:07","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:00:07","slug":"prices-of-cassava-and-gari-increase-in-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=219342","title":{"rendered":"Prices of cassava and gari increase in June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Market prices released by Esoko Ghana in the first week in June showed that fresh tubers of cassava and gari recorded the highest gain in price by 2 percent each.<\/p>\n<p>There have been recent reports of an increase in the price of cassava across the various markets due to <strong><span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2016\/04\/15\/price-of-cassava-increases-in-third-week-in-april\/\" target=\"_blank\">shortage<\/a> <\/span><\/strong>of the produce.<\/p>\n<p>The Agric ministry has however <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/index.php\/2016\/05\/26\/agric-ministry-blames-cassava-shortage-on-poor-transport-system\/\" target=\"_blank\">denied<\/a><\/strong><\/span> such claims attributing the situation to inefficient transport network systems to cart the\u00a0 produce from the farms to the market.<\/p>\n<p>Three to four tubers of cassava are now selling at 8 cedis while a medium size tin of gari is selling at 6 cedis 50 pesewas.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56631\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56631\" style=\"width: 935px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-56631 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Capture-esoko.png\" alt=\"Capture esoko\" width=\"935\" height=\"454\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56631\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Details of the market figures captured by Esoko Ghana Commodity Index<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Cowpea and groundnut followed with a percentage drop in price each.<\/p>\n<p>They are now selling at 9 cedis 10 pesewas and 5 cedis 70 pesewas per medium size tin respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Soyabean also lost a pesewa and it is selling at 5 cedis 90 pesewas per medium size tin.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the prices of tomato and yam dropped by 2 percent each.<\/p>\n<p>A medium size of tomato is now selling at 12 cedis 90 pesewas and a tuber of yam is selling at 6 cedis 80 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>On the various markets, Esoko reports that the price of a medium tin of maize increased by 11 percent in Tamale to close the week at 3 cedis 30 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>It however gained 5 percent in Techiman to close the week at 4 cedis.<\/p>\n<p>Tomato however gained 33 percent in Bawku to close the week at 4 cedis 80 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>But the price of the commodity declined in Accra and Tamale.<\/p>\n<p>In Accra, the price of tomato declined by 14 percent to close the week at 15 cedis 30 pesewas.<\/p>\n<p>In Tamale, it dropped by 5 percent to close the week at 6 cedis per medium size tin.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>By: Pius Amihere Eduku\/citibusinessnews.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>Credit: Esoko Ghana Commodity Index<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Market prices released by Esoko Ghana in the first week in June showed that fresh tubers of cassava and gari recorded the highest gain in price by 2 percent each.
