{"id":219224,"date":"2016-06-03T06:00:40","date_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=219224"},"modified":"2016-06-03T06:00:40","modified_gmt":"2016-06-03T06:00:40","slug":"we-dont-bar-pregnant-trainee-nurses-from-licensing-exams-midwifery-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=219224","title":{"rendered":"We don&#8217;t bar pregnant trainee nurses from licensing exams &#8211; Midwifery Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Nurses and Midwifery Council has said it is willing to register the three students of the Mampong Nurses and Midwifery Training School who were <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/contextly.com\/redirect\/?id=Fqvpq4p7Yo:218314:2934:13:::sidebar:57503e0f8ae410-72920025\">prevented from\u00a0registering<\/a><\/strong><\/span> and sitting for their licensing examination, because they were pregnant.<\/p>\n<p>The Commission on\u00a0Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ),\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/31\/chraj-orders-midwifery-council-to-register-pregnant-students\/\">ordered the Council to register<\/a><\/strong><\/span> all affected pregnant students in the upcoming external licensing examination in August, after renowned Human Rights Lawyer, Francis Xavier-Sosu, filed a petition praying it to intervene.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;iHEUVvC2FiWwyxqpQimo1JuvacCpf78a&#8221;]But speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the Head of Public Relations at the Nurses and Midwifery Council, Nana Boateng Agyeman, stated that the Council has no policy barring pregnant students from partaking in the external licensing examinations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would want to set the record straight that council has no policy with regards to candidates writing examination whilst they are pregnant so this directive is quite unfortunate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Agyeman explained further that the school and not the Council prevented the three students from registering for the examination.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did not say we are not going to register the students for the licensing examination. It is the school that prevented them and it might be that their institutional policy is to prevent students who\u00a0are pregnant from licensing examinations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Council ready to register the three nurses<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite the period for the registration of the licensing examination elapsing, the Council has indicated it will give special attention\u00a0to the three nurses and register them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will register them even though the registration for the licensing examination is over.
