Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been named in Uruguay’s 23-man World Cup squad, despite his recent knee surgery.<\/p>\n

Suarez, 27,\u00a0had an operation on 22 May<\/a>\u00a0to repair meniscus damage, but hopes to play in his country’s opening Group D match, against Costa Rica on 14 June.<\/p>\n

Three other Premier League players have been selected by coach Oscar Tabarez.<\/p>\n

Liverpool defender Sebastian Coates, Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez and West Brom defender Diego Lugano will also travel to Brazil.<\/p>\n

Suarez\u00a0has told Liverpool team-mate Glen Johnson<\/a>\u00a0he thinks he will be “OK” for the game against England on 19 June.<\/p>\n

Coates, 23, spent the second half of the season on loan at former club Nacional after recovering from a\u00a0knee injury<\/a>\u00a0that meant he missed Uruguay’s last four South American qualifiers and the play-off win over Jordan.<\/p>\n

Ramirez, also 23, is heading to his first World Cup finals, as are centre-back Jose Maria Gimenez, 19, and Atletico Madrid team-mate Cristian Rodriguez, 28.<\/p>\n

Former Manchester United striker Diego Forlan, 35, will take part in his third World Cup, having played and scored at both the 2002 and 2010 tournaments.<\/p>\n

The two players cut from Tabarez’s 25-man provisional squad are Palmeiras midfielder Sebastian Eguren and Lanus defender Alejandro Silva.<\/p>\n

After facing Costa Rica and England, Uruguay conclude their Group D fixtures with a game against Italy on 24 June.<\/p>\n

Goalkeepers\u00a0<\/strong>: Fernando Muslera (Galatasaray), Martin Silva (Vasco da Gama), Rodrigo Munoz (Libertad).<\/p>\n
