{"id":214152,"date":"2016-05-14T06:00:21","date_gmt":"2016-05-14T06:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=214152"},"modified":"2016-05-14T06:00:21","modified_gmt":"2016-05-14T06:00:21","slug":"mahama-not-fighting-corruption-hard-enough-appiah-ofori","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=214152","title":{"rendered":"Mahama not fighting corruption hard enough &#8211; Appiah Ofori"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In spite of his claim that President John Dramani Mahama is not corrupt, anti-corruption Campaigner, P.C Appiah Ofori, has stated that the\u00a0President has not fought corruption effectively in his administration.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong>, the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament indicated that per what he knows of the President, he is\u00a0convinced that he is <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/13\/mahama-is-not-corrupt-p-c-appiah-ofori\/\">not corrupt<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;3JF78bSYktdN4ULwFvYRS96VlcW0bg0y&#8221;]He however intimated that the President had failed to translate his seemingly noble character traits to tackling corruption in\u00a0his government.<\/p>\n<p>P.C. Appiah cited the many corruption scandals, including the ones exposed in the Auditor-General\u2019s annual reports, as evidence of the President Mahama\u2019s failure\u00a0in the fight against corruption in his government.<\/p>\n<p>According to the former MP, he has known the President since their days in Parliament. He noted however that he does not approve of his posture in the fight against corruption.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoing by the Auditor\u2019s General report that has been coming out, covering these areas; the massive fraudulent deals the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has been hearing I can\u2019t say the President has fought corruption, \u201cthe former MP for Asikuma-Odoben Brakwa stated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I\u2019m fighting corruption better than other regimes \u2013 Mahama\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>P.C Appiah\u2019s sentiment is however in sharp contrast to President Mahama\u2019s assertion that his administration has fought corruption better than previous\u00a0regimes.<\/p>\n<p>After boldly declaring to the BBC in an interview that he has <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2016\/05\/12\/ive-never-taken-bribe-mahama\/\">never accepted a bribe<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, President Mahama further stated on Thursday that, unlike his predecessors who felt exposing corruption would bring down their governments; his administration is fighting the canker head-on.<\/p>\n<p>President Mahama, who was speaking to the BBC on the side-lines of the Anti-corruption Summit ongoing in London, said dealing with corruption in Ghana which has a high perception of the canker, is an uphill task.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know corruption is not ended. It\u2019s a tough fight. We have an uphill battle but we need a partnership of the willing to be able to do it. In a country like ours, you have a heightened perception of corruption because people are able to discuss it more freely but to move the next step where you expose it, investigate and sanction it, then you need evidence to bring it before a judge or something like that; and that\u2019s what we are doing.
