{"id":21090,"date":"2014-05-27T17:33:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-27T17:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=21090"},"modified":"2014-05-27T17:33:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-27T17:33:38","slug":"tottenham-appoint-southampton-boss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=21090","title":{"rendered":"Tottenham appoint Southampton boss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Argentine resigned from Southampton after 18 months with the club.<\/p>\n<p>The 42-year-old becomes Tottenham&#8217;s 10th manager since 2001 and replaces\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/27389072\">Tim Sherwood who was sacked on 13 May.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a club with tremendous history and prestige and I am honoured to have been given this opportunity to be its head coach,&#8221; Pochettino told\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tottenhamhotspur.com\/news\/mauricio-pochettino-appointed-new-head-coach-270514\/\">the Spurs website.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"story_continues_2\">Pochettino&#8217;s assistant Jesus Perez, first team coach Miguel D&#8217;Agostino and goalkeeping coach Toni Jimenez have also left Southampton to join him at Spurs.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There is an abundance of top-class talent at the club and I am looking forward to starting work with the squad,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tottenham Hotspur has a huge following across the world and I have great admiration for the passion the fans show for this team.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are determined to give the supporters the kind of attacking football and success that we are all looking to achieve.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The former Espanyol boss took over at Southampton in January 2013,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/21079956\">when he replaced Nigel Adkins,<\/a>\u00a0and led them to eighth place in the Premier League.<\/p>\n<p>His future at St Mary&#8217;s had been in question, following the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sport\/0\/football\/25752833\">departure of chairman Nicola Cortese in January.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said: &#8220;He has a proven ability to develop each player as an individual, whilst building great team spirit and a winning mentality.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Southampton chairman Ralph Krueger said: &#8220;We will be looking for a manager that shares our values, our principles and our philosophy; a manager who can continue to grow the first team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Argentine resigned from Southampton after 18 months with the club.
