President John Dramani Mahama has insisted that his government does not intend to privatize the country\u2019s power distributor Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).<\/p>\n
According to him, what is happening is that government is instead leveraging on the private sector to reach out to more clients and also boost revenue collection.<\/p>\n

Government agreement under the Millennium Challenge Compact is to leverage private sector participation at the client level to assist in resolving client complaints and revenue collection,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
President Mahama, while speaking at the May Day celebrations in Wa in the Upper West Region, assured Ghanaians that the new reforms at the ECG will not result in retrenchment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere would be no worker retrenchment occurring as a result of this reform,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Millennium Challenge Compact<\/strong><\/p>\n Government has been criticized over its decision to reform the ECG after it\u00a0signed an agreement with the Millennium Challenge Account.<\/p>\n The reform is also targeted at enhancing technology and efficiency in power distribution to the ECG to help them become a stronger company able to meet the current and future needs of the power sector.<\/p>\n Currently over 40 companies comprising local and foreign, have expressed interest to partner government in transforming ECG.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
