<\/p>\nThe Ashanti Regional office of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) was on Sunday morning gutted by fire.<\/p>\n
The fire which is said to have started around 4am destroyed some documents at the various offices in the building and also destroyed the office of the Regional chairman.<\/p>\n

Confirming the incident to Citi News<\/strong>, the Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the NDC, Ahmed Akalilu said they suspect arson since some gallons believed to contain kerosene were found at the premises.<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026but for the vigilance of the security guard at the post, who few minutes after what we suspect to be arson by our opponent called others to quickly come and quench the fire. The fire begun from the regional chairman\u2019s office and part of his office has been burnt.\u201d<\/p>\n He noted that that some doors of the various offices in the building have also been burnt adding that the hierarchy of the party in the region are in a meeting deliberating over the issue.<\/p>\n \u201cAs we speak we are unable to put figures across. This is a matter of security and meetings are being held by the party hierarchy to determine the next line of action. I am sure in the course of the day we can officially give details as to the next line of action and if indeed there is need to put cost to it, we will do that,\u201d he Ahmed Akalilu added.<\/p>\n Plans to register minors <\/strong><\/p>\n The NDC communications\u00a0director further accused the opposition New Patriotic Party of executing the attack on their party office to divert the NDC\u2019s attention from the ongoing limited voter registration exercise.<\/p>\n He said they have reasons to suspect the NPP because the NDC have exposed attempts by their opponent to register minors in the exercise.<\/p>\n \u201cWe strongly suspect our opponent. They are aware that they are losing the battle as far as the registration is concerned. Their plans to register so many minors that we have succeeded in using the legal processes to challenge is really a worrying situation to them. So the attempt is to divert our attention so that once the party office is burnt, there is a likelihood that party bigwigs will spend their time in resolving the issues so the NPP can continue with their illegality,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
