About six macho men suspected to be members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Monday afternoon forcibly entered\u00a0the studios of Kumasi-based Fox FM, beating up a\u00a0youth activist of the NPP, Baah Acheamfuor,\u00a0and some staff of the radio station.<\/p>\n
The men, numbering about six on motorbikes, are believed to have been angered by allegations made by the NPP youth activist, against another member of the NPP in the region.<\/p>\n
Confirming the incident on Citi Eyewitness News<\/strong>, the Host of the late afternoon political show, \u2018Eboboba\u2019 on Fox FM, Kwaku Kyere, said in the course of the discussion, Mr. Acheamfuor was attacked by the macho men who forced the doors of the studio opened.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”BxEFAP1VnJDJ9s2wgF2ZWIzFuncQnOac”]According to him, Mr. Acheamfuor was making some brief comments about the NPP although that was not the subject for discussion.<\/p>\n He said in the process, Mr. Acheamfuor made some allegations against the NPP’s Communication’s \u00a0Director for the region, Kwesi Kyei, who was forced to visit the studio to respond to the allegations.<\/p>\n \u201cWe gave Kwesi Kyei\u00a0the opportunity to react since he is the communications director of the NPP in the region. Just when\u00a0he was reacting, I was informed by one of my colleagues that some macho men are just forcing their way into the studio. Before he could conclude what he was telling me, they had forced the studio doors opened and one of them hit me on the chest; so I quickly maneuvered my way out of the studio. When the police came in, they had already escaped and I was later told by my producers that Baah Acheamfuor was beaten to the point that he was on the floor. No one needs to tell you because if you look at him, his eyes are red and they are swollen\u00a0so he was indeed attacked in the studio.\u201d<\/p>\n According to the host, the police were quickly called in to rescue the situation.<\/p>\n “They [Macho men] really don\u2019t know me personally otherwise they would have still attacked me behind the microphone. In fact, my colleague was also attacked before they went to Baah Acheamfuor. So the police later came in and escorted Baah Acheamfuor out of the studio so I am sure he went to the Hospital.”<\/p>\n Kwesi Kyeito said he has no knowledge about the identity of the men and had not seen them anywhere before.<\/p>\n \u201cI am told they came in with three motorbikes and they were about two on each motorbike\u201d.<\/p>\n He said the police have commenced investigations into the matter after taking their statements.<\/p>\n Baah Acheamfuor, is believed to belong to the faction of suspended National party Chairman Paul Afoko, and failed Presidential candidate, Alan Kyeremanten.<\/p>\n NPP member killed in Asawase <\/strong><\/p>\n Last year, a member of the party, 37-year old \u00a0Sadiq Abubakar, was killed\u00a0in the Asawase <\/a><\/strong><\/span>constituency in a disagreement which was largely spearheaded by the perceived factionalism in the party.<\/p>\n Attacks on radio stations<\/strong><\/p>\n This is not the first time such an incident has\u00a0occurred particularly in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n It is however unclear how this incident would turn out considering that such issues often end up being treated as party matters rather than they being pursued as criminal acts.
