What should have been\u00a0a normal fishing expedition\u00a0on the Ankobra River in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, turned tragic for\u00a0a 70-year-old fisherman, who\u00a0drowned in the river.<\/p>\n
The tragedy occurred on\u00a0Monday when his\u00a0canoe allegedly capsized.\u00a0The lifeless body of the fisherman, Nana Eduku Tanoe, was retrieved from the river by a search party three days after the incident and has since been buried.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”mS6BUeLDW8v51ly23ih4XIN3NGBqzp5z”]A grandson of the deceased,\u00a0Patrick Assuah, indicated that his grandfather\u00a0had been going for fishing all his life until\u00a0his death.<\/p>\n
He noted that last Monday at about 9:00am, the deceased, who was also the head of the Azohile family at Saloma, in the Ellembelle District, went for fishing in a canoe and decided to check\u00a0a lobster pot he had placed on the Ankobra River to entrap\u00a0some lobsters.<\/p>\n
Patrick Assuah pointed out that in the evening of that day, some farmers who were returning home, saw the deceased\u2019s canoe and a sack full of lobsters as well as the paddle of the canoe floating on the river, but did not see the fisherman.<\/p>\n
The farmers then took the sack and went to the deceased\u2019s family to lodge a complainant with the family members.<\/p>\n
The search for him commenced on that Monday, but it was on Wednesday that the body was discovered by the search party.<\/p>\n
