The family of Oscar Pistorius has condemned allegations in a book that new evidence shows that he beat his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, with a cricket bat, before fatally shooting her at his home in 2013.<\/p>\n
The family called the allegations \u201coutrageous\u201d and \u201cabsurd\u201d, and said there was an \u201coften vicious\u201d media campaign against the double-amputee Olympian, since he was charged with murder over Steenkamp\u2019s killing.<\/p>\n
Pistorius appeared in court this week for the first time since his conviction for shooting Steenkamp was upgraded to murder, after an appeal by prosecutors. He faces 15 years in prison and will be sentenced in June.<\/p>\n
Pistorius\u2019s family also dismissed a British newspaper story that said his uncle had admitted Pistorius murdered Steenkamp, calling it \u201cgutter journalism\u201d.<\/p>\n
