The Ministry of Interior has lifted the curfew imposed on Tafo, a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.<\/p>\n
A statement signed by James Agalga, Deputy Minister of Interior, said the decision was taken based on “the recommendation of the Ashanti \u00a0Regional Security Council [REGSEC],\u201d adding that the directive takes effect from today, Thursday, 21st<\/sup> April, 2016.<\/p>\n [contextly_sidebar id=”kZOF393oacJiwTPu1Bmog8fRB5JpcxiW”]The statement also explained that REGSEC\u2019s observation had shown that the \u201ccommunity is now very calm and peaceful.\u201d<\/p>\n Government through the statement expressed appreciation to the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area for their patience during the curfew period and also urged them continue to resort to peaceful means in solving their problems.<\/p>\n Background<\/strong><\/p>\n The Ministry of Interior placed a curfew<\/a><\/span><\/strong> on the Tafo Township in February 2016 following clashes between some Muslim youth and the youth of the area backed by the\u00a0Tafo Traditional Council over\u00a0a piece of cemetery land.<\/p>\n The incident led to the death of one person.<\/p>\n The curfew, which was originally from dawn to dusk was reviewed several times until the\u00a0decision to lift it completely.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
