{"id":206851,"date":"2016-04-14T18:43:14","date_gmt":"2016-04-14T18:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=206851"},"modified":"2016-04-14T18:43:14","modified_gmt":"2016-04-14T18:43:14","slug":"mastercard-organizes-competition-to-improve-rural-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=206851","title":{"rendered":"MasterCard organizes competition to improve rural lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Organizers of the MasterCard Foundation Fund for Rural Prosperity have urged Ghanaians to take part in its next competition to help improve lives of Ghanaians living in rural areas.<\/p>\n<p>The 2016 edition, which opened on April 14, will allow people from selected countries including Ghana to design innovative ideas that can be implemented using ICT to improve the livelihood of rural folks.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_52449\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<figure id=\"attachment_52449\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-52449\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-52449 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/winners.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/winners-300x200.jpg 300w, http:\/\/citibusinessnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/winners.jpg 600w\" alt=\"The five winners of the 2015 edition \" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-52449\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The five winners of the 2015 edition<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<\/div>\n<p>The competition has two categories\u2014 innovation and scaling, under which 15 million dollars and 35 million dollars are allocated respectively.<\/p>\n<p>At a ceremony in Accra, the foundation awarded five companies who won the 2015 edition with an initial fund of 10.6 million \u00a0dollars to bolster their innovative work to alleviate poverty by increasing access to financial services for poor people in rural Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The five companies introduced imaginative thinking in their approach to scaling up financial inclusion\u2014 the increase in access to services such as mobile banking, savings accounts, insurance and credit for the benefit of nearly eight million people in remote parts of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>In this year\u2019s edition, the foundation announced that it is searching \u00a0for other companies that are working to broaden and deepen financial inclusion at scale in rural Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The five firms that will receive the US$10.6 million under the 2015 Fund for Rural Prosperity Scaling competition include , APA Insurance limited, Finserve Africa Limited, M-KOPA LLC, Musoni \u00a0Limited \u00a0all in Kenya, and Olam Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the <strong>Citi Business News<\/strong>, a Senior Programme Manager at the MasterCard Foundation, \u00a0Rewa S.
