{"id":206104,"date":"2016-04-12T13:10:48","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T13:10:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=206104"},"modified":"2016-04-12T13:10:48","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T13:10:48","slug":"odawna-traders-protest-against-eviction-without-compensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=206104","title":{"rendered":"Odawna traders protest against eviction without compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Over 300 traders who ply their activities at the Odwana Market at the\u00a0Kwame Nkrumah Circle, have been ordered by a\u00a0court to relocate to allow\u00a0for\u00a0ongoing works on the Kwame Nkrumah interchange.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-206103\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160412024804-1.jpg\" alt=\"20160412024804\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Two months ago, the Department of Urban Roads ordered the traders to vacate the area, but they resisted and demanded to be compensated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Citi News<\/strong>\u2019 Philip Lartey\u00a0reported on Tuesday that works on the interchange close to the Odawna Market will soon resume, hence the need for the traders to be evicted.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-206117\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160412024800.jpg\" alt=\"20160412024800\" width=\"601\" height=\"338\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The traders are however unhappy because they are\u00a0not being compensated for the relocation.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the disgruntled traders who spoke to Philip Nii Lartey lamented the fact they were being stripped of their\u00a0livelihood.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-206100\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160412024800-2.jpg\" alt=\"20160412024800 (2)\" width=\"595\" height=\"334\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court says we should go. That is why we are packing our goods but our problem is that they should pay us because from now going, we will be selling nothing but we have children so how are we going to eat, how are we going to survive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A male trader told <strong>Citi News\u00a0<\/strong>he was going to move his goods from the area but was not going to relocate until he is\u00a0compensated.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-206117\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/20160412024800.jpg\" alt=\"20160412024800\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are begging the Urban Roads Department to come and settle us. We are removing our goods from here but we are staying here until they pay us before we leave.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Acquisition and Utility Coordination Officer at the Urban Roads\u00a0 Department,\u00a0Alex Kojo Asamoah told<strong> Citi News<\/strong> his outfit&#8217;s hands were tied concerning the payment of compensation because they are still waiting on the court for further instructions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe payment hangs on them when they [the court] will finish with the evaluation report, when they will go through all the processes and that will give orders of payment.
