{"id":205434,"date":"2016-04-08T20:55:02","date_gmt":"2016-04-08T20:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=205434"},"modified":"2016-04-08T20:55:02","modified_gmt":"2016-04-08T20:55:02","slug":"nigerias-university-lagos-closes-fuel-crisis-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=205434","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria&#8217;s University of Lagos closes over fuel crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">Nigeria&#8217;s University of Lagos has been shut over student protests and the inability of people to reach the campus because of the ongoing fuel shortage.<\/p>\n<p>A notice from the university gave students living on campus until 1000 local time (0900 GMT) to leave.<\/p>\n<p>It blamed the decision on the &#8220;agitation&#8221; over poor water and power supply and the &#8220;fuel crisis&#8221; meaning that people cannot get to class.<\/p>\n<p>Nigeria&#8217;s current fuel shortage has led to long queues at filling stations.<\/p>\n<p>The country&#8217;s junior oil minister Emmanuel Kachikwu warned this week that if the problem is not solved then mayhem could follow.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Lagos authorities said it took the move &#8220;to forestall a further breakdown of law and order on campus&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>But the BBC&#8217;s Umar Shehu Elleman reports from Lagos that hundreds of angry students refused to leave the campus, and instead called for the vice-chancellor to resign.<\/p>\n<p>The university has not said when the campus would reopen.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;<\/p>\n<p>Source: BBC<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nigeria&#8217;s University of Lagos has been shut over student protests and the inability of people to reach the campus because of the ongoing fuel shortage.
