{"id":205263,"date":"2016-04-08T05:50:17","date_gmt":"2016-04-08T05:50:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=205263"},"modified":"2016-04-08T05:50:17","modified_gmt":"2016-04-08T05:50:17","slug":"ghanaian-workers-protest-abusive-turkish-bosses-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=205263","title":{"rendered":"Ghanaian workers protest against &#8216;abusive&#8217; Turkish bosses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Workers of the ARDA Group Company, a Turkish company based in Akim Oda in the Eastern Region, demonstrated on Thursday\u00a0against alleged abuses meted out to them by their employers.<\/p>\n<p>The Turkish company has been operating in the Oda area\u00a0for the past three years after securing a Government of Ghana contract to undertake water projects and related infrastructural works at Akim Oda, Winneba and Cape Coast.<\/p>\n<p>During the protest by the local workers, other workers, also Ghanaians, called for calm, and reminded the agitated workers that the projects being undertaken were in the best interest of Ghanaians and not the Turkish and so they should exercise restraint.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are working in the interests of Ghanaians. If the work fails they will paid what is due them at the end of the contact,\u201d the sympathetic worker said.<\/p>\n<p>But majority of the workers appeared incensed by the actions of the company&#8217;s managers\u00a0which they deemed to be demeaning.<\/p>\n<p>They singled out one Mustaph Aziz Amando, who is the Deputy Project manager. They accused him of regularly assaulting the workers for no tangible reason.<\/p>\n<p>They cited one instance saying, \u201cOur colleague was beaten on Saturday after he was\u00a0accused of liaising with outsiders to steal from the company because he\u00a0placed a machine where it wasn\u2019t supposed to be,\u201d one worker complained.<\/p>\n<p>The agitated\u00a0workers also claimed that their salaries are not stable and that they are being exploited and\u00a0made to work grueling odd hours detrimental to their health.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur salaries are not stable. Another disturbing issue is that we have not been given appointment letters. We are made to work during odd ours and it affects our health.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Abuses of \u00a0local<\/strong><strong>\u00a0employees by expatriate bosses increasing<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Allegations of physical abuse against foreign employers have surfaced\u00a0in recent times.<\/p>\n<p>The one which has angered many Ghanaians including the Trades Union Congress (TUC), is the one\u00a0which involves an Italian workshop supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>The \u00a0expatriate is alleged to have chained one of his Ghanaian subordinates to a container in the hot sun, as punishment for failing to complete a task assigned him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Korean boss slaps Ghanaian woman with hot pizza<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In another incident, an employee of the Peterpan Restaurant in Accra, was also slapped with a piece of hot pizza by her Korean employer.
