President John Mahama has urged Ghanaians to stay united in everything they do before, during and after this year’s elections.<\/p>\n
The President was speaking during a\u00a0Muslim vigil known as the\u00a0Maulid in Kumasi.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”TRMtIqrFWLISjQlTFkYr9Ggvx3eR0vkR”]\u201cWe must ensure that we remain a nation that is united. Do not allow anyone to exploit cracks that emanate from disagreements of any form or shape, whether ethnic, religious or political,\u201d Mr. Mahama said.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that \u201cthese fundamentalists do not discriminate in their choice of victims. They kill children, women and men; young and old; and they attack people of all religious persuasions, be they Muslims or non-Muslims, Christians or people of other faiths.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish to assure you that our security agencies are firm and are doing all that is possible to keep us safe. We must all support them to be able to realize this objective.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ghana\u2019s peace enviable<\/strong><\/p>\n President Mahama at the event also said Ghana has an enviable global recognition because of the peace it enjoys.<\/p>\n He said at\u00a0a time when terrorism is on the rise, there is peaceful co-existence among the religious groups in the country.<\/p>\n President Mahama thus applauded the Muslim community and other religious groups for ensuring that peace prevails in the country adding that \u201cGhana has an enviable global recognition [and it] is a place where peaceful co-existence thrives between Muslims, Christians and people of other religion.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThis case of harmony has helped us keep the peace and forged ahead with the needed development for our people and we must maintain it\u2026 This year, the call is even more important especially following the surge in global terrorist activities\u201d.<\/p>\n Mawlid is the observance of the birthday of the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad, which is celebrated often on the 12th day of Rabi\u2019 al-awwal, the third month on\u00a0the Islamic calendar.<\/p>\n The 12th Day of Rabi\u2019 al-awwall is the most popular date from a list of many dates that are reported as the birth date. –<\/p>\n By: Jeffrey Owuraku Sarpong\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" President John Mahama has urged Ghanaians to stay united in everything they do before, during and after this year’s elections.
