{"id":203410,"date":"2016-04-01T07:50:01","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T07:50:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=203410"},"modified":"2016-04-01T07:50:01","modified_gmt":"2016-04-01T07:50:01","slug":"price-of-maize-goes-up-tomatoes-drop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=203410","title":{"rendered":"Price of maize goes up, tomatoes drop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ghanaians should expect to pay more for maize and products made from the commodity since its price in the market has gone up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They price of maize went up by 5% in the last week of March and is now selling at an average price of GHc5.40 per \u201colonka.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Checks by Esoko Ghana have shown that prices of groundnut and soyabean also went up by 2% each.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cassava (fresh) and Yam (pona) also gained by a percentage point each. Both closed the week at GHc 6.70 and 5.40 per \u201c3-4 tubers and \u2018medium size tuber\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to Esoko Ghana, the price of tomato however decreased by 4% to close the week at an average price of GHc6.7 per \u201cmedium size tomato tin,\u201d with cowpea also dropping by a percentage point to close the week at GHc 8.10.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the various markets, the price for an \u201colonka\u201d of maize gained by 8 percent in Accra to close the week at GHc 4.90 and 13 percent in Takoradi to close the week at GHc 12.00 and dropped by 2% in Dambai to close the week at GHc 5.00, while in the other markets, the price remained the same.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A \u201cmedium size tomato tin\u201d full of fresh tomatoes lost 8 percent in Kumasi to close the week at GHc 7.50 with Techiman losing 12 percent to close the week at GHc 7.00 and also with Takoradi losing 3 percent to close the week at GHc 12.00.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Check below for more:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-203413 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/esoko-april-1.png\" alt=\"esoko april 1\" width=\"896\" height=\"477\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Credit: Esoko Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghanaians should expect to pay more for maize and products made from the commodity since its price in the market has gone up.
