{"id":203092,"date":"2016-03-31T10:11:16","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T10:11:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=203092"},"modified":"2016-03-31T10:11:16","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T10:11:16","slug":"taking-obinim-tv-others-off-air-bold-decision-giba","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=203092","title":{"rendered":"Taking Obinim TV, others off-air &#8216;bold&#8217; decision &#8211; GIBA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), has commended the National Communication Authority (NCA) for taking nine TV channels off-air for breaching its regulations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">GIBA said it had earlier expressed concerns about\u00a0the operations of some of the channels and was not\u00a0surprised by\u00a0the announcement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The affected channels include controversial Bishop Obinim\u2019s OB TV, Kessben TV, Clive TV, ECN, Zoe TV, BTA, ATV, Care TV, and Elijah TV.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show <\/strong>on Thursday, Vice President of GIBA, Samuel Attah-Mensah said \u201c\u2026the NCA in my estimation has taken a bold step\u201d but added that \u201cit doesn\u2019t end there; we need to work on content.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;umlQq7UcYnaTBeqUe988iTudxTUao9Hb&#8221;]\u201cAs GIBA we\u2019ve registered our concern about this situation in a letter that was written to the NCA few months ago. So we\u2019ve been in discussions with the NCA, not to do what they have just done but to sanitize the digital TV space,&#8221;\u00a0added Mr. Attah-Mensah.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said they were worried about the situation &#8220;because you wake up every day to a new channel broadcasting and we are at a loss as to who granted authorization and who is even managing the direction of this emergence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The NCA on Wednesday announced that it has taken off nine stations including one that belongs to controversial preacher, Bishop Obinim, for <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2016\/03\/31\/obinims-tv-others-breached-communications-act-nca\/\" target=\"_blank\">breaching the guidelines<\/a><\/strong><\/span> under Section 2(4) of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008, Act 775 and also using a third party satellite infrastructure provider to broadcast their programs via satellite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Meanwhile some Ghanaians say the sector agencies including GIBA and the National Media Commission, should also take action against media houses that broadcast inappropriate content.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mr. Attah-Mensah said both GIBA and the NMC are worried about the matter but are handicapped due to the lack of stringent regulations to streamline the activities of media houses in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
