{"id":202997,"date":"2016-03-31T06:59:05","date_gmt":"2016-03-31T06:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=202997"},"modified":"2016-03-31T06:59:05","modified_gmt":"2016-03-31T06:59:05","slug":"dismissed-dce-insitigated-atebubu-clashes-police","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=202997","title":{"rendered":"Atebubu clashes: Police chase run-away former DCE"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in the Brong\u00a0 Ahafo Region are hunting for the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atebubu, Sampson Owusu Boateng, for allegedly inciting last Tuesday\u2019s clashes in the town\u00a0that led to the burning of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Three people were arrested following the clashes in Atebubu-Amantin on Tuesday, after some supporters of the former DCE, Sampson Owusu Boateng, and those\u00a0of the Member of Parliament for the area, Sanja Nanja, clashed over Owusu Boateng\u2019s dismissal from office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">His angry supporters subsequently set fire to the NDC party office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Police have indicated that there had already been simmering tension among some of the youth in the area even before the removal of Owusu Boateng.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking on <strong>Citi Eyewitness<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>News<\/strong>, Public Relations Officer of the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Command, ASP Christopher Tawiah, accused the DCE of instigating the youth to misbehave\u00a0after he was given a letter asking him to vacate his office.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He explained that some police officers arrived at the party office to quell the tensions, but\u00a0the\u00a0youth grew more restless hurling insults and curses at the police.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ASP Tawaiah stated that, following\u00a0the assessment of the situation, some property including a vehicle at the party office was protected from being vandalized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0He says the police officers only returned to find the office on fire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Police not at fault<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ASP Tawiah said the police could not be blamed for the escalation of the situation.\u00a0According to ASP Tawiah, \u201cThe whole issue came of all of a sudden. We didn\u2019t know people were planning to do this and riot control teams are available in the capitals but not in the districts.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He also pointed out that they quickly made some arrests after the act of arson saying,\u00a0\u201cWe haven&#8217;t failed;\u00a0we have arrested some people and we are processing them for court and we will see what happens going forward.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Dismissed DCE on the run<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ASP Tawiah alleged that the dismissed DCE instigated the attack and that the police were on the lookout for him since he&#8217;s nowhere to be found.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cIf he was around, we would have arrested him too but he has taken to his heels and we don\u2019t know where he is but we are looking for him\u2026 We will prosecute him if we get him because he condoned and connived and instigated the assault.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By Delali Adogla-Bessa\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Police in the Brong\u00a0 Ahafo Region are hunting for the former District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atebubu, Sampson Owusu Boateng, for allegedly inciting last Tuesday\u2019s clashes in the town\u00a0that led to the burning of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party office.
