{"id":199772,"date":"2016-03-17T20:34:56","date_gmt":"2016-03-17T20:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=199772"},"modified":"2016-03-17T20:34:56","modified_gmt":"2016-03-17T20:34:56","slug":"send-ghana-trains-peace-animators-in-eastern-corridor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=199772","title":{"rendered":"SEND-Ghana trains peace animators in Eastern Corridor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of the upcoming November 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, poverty alleviation donor fund managers, SEND-Ghana, is training about 200 peace animators in the Eastern Corridor of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p>The beneficiaries are selected from 66 identified hotspots of eight districts in the Eastern Corridor.<\/p>\n<p>These include Zabzugu, Tatale, Krachi, Nchumuru and Chereponi districts where there are frequent chieftaincy, land and political upheavals.<\/p>\n<p>With funding from the Global Affairs Canada, the initiative is a component of the Food Security through Cooperative in Northern Ghana (FOSTERING) project.<\/p>\n<p>In a <strong>Citi News<\/strong> interview on the side-lines of a day\u2019s capacity building workshop in Zabzugu, SEND-Ghana\u2019s Peace Building Officer, Daniel Kansake, said the participants comprised farmers, youth groups, women groups and persons living with disability.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_199776\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-199776\" style=\"width: 636px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-199776\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Send-1.jpg\" alt=\"END-Ghana\u2019s Peace Building Officer, Daniel Kansake.\" width=\"636\" height=\"477\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-199776\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">END-Ghana\u2019s Peace Building Officer, Daniel Kansake.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to him, the peace animators have been tasked to detect early warning signals and appropriately report to law enforcement agencies for rapid response.<\/p>\n<p>He said they would also serve as peace educators in their respective communities.<\/p>\n<p>He posited that SEND-Ghana\u2019s commitment to poverty reduction in their operational zones through its FOSTERING programme, will be worthless without peaceful co-existence, hence the initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Daniel Kansake emphasized that a proactive action plan would be factored into SEND-Ghana\u2019s political campaign strategies in some carefully selected hotspots in the region.<\/p>\n<p>He mentioned the Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA), the Ghana Police Service, the National Peace Council (NPC) the District Assemblies and traditional authorities as some of SEND-Ghana\u2019s collaborators.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nBy: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/Citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ahead of the upcoming November 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, poverty alleviation donor fund managers, SEND-Ghana, is training about 200 peace animators in the Eastern Corridor of the Northern Region.
