{"id":197107,"date":"2016-03-08T14:52:46","date_gmt":"2016-03-08T14:52:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=197107"},"modified":"2016-03-08T14:52:46","modified_gmt":"2016-03-08T14:52:46","slug":"ndc-members-sue-obom-domeabra-parliamentary-candidate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/?p=197107","title":{"rendered":"NDC members sue Obom Domeabra parliamentary candidate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the in the Obom-Domeabra Constituency of the Greater Accra Region, have sued their Parliamentary Candidate, Sophia Ackuaku, \u00a0asking the court to disqualify her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The party members claim the parliamentary candidate forged signatures while filing her nomination papers to contest for the seat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Z9CYRiMJRcbB6dxNWtCx9wRqSwB4Y9mJ&#8221;]According to the members, the Parliamentary nominee is an alien in the Constituency and does not deserve to lead them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">One of the plaintiffs, Edward Nii Krowey, told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that the candidate does not hail from the\u00a0constituency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe don\u2019t know this woman at all from anywhere. She doesn\u2019t belong to our constituency. This woman came in forcing herself to be a parliamentary aspirant and we thought it wise not to allow her; but she forced herself through. She filed her nomination forms and forged my signature and that of other officers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cI detected it and questioned her. She instead said she gave me money to do that work for her which was not accurate. Instead of keeping quiet we sent the case to the Police.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nii Krowey explained that they took \u00a0the action because \u201cforging someone\u2019s signature is a criminal offence.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Sophia Ackuaku \u00a0in 2012 vied for the Dome Kwabenya seat<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sophia Ackuaku, who had served as a Deputy Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), was the NDC&#8217;s Parliamentary Candidate for the\u00a0Dome\/Kwabenya Constituency in the 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_197127\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-197127\" style=\"width: 451px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-197127\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ADWOA-safo.jpg\" alt=\"Adwoa Safo\" width=\"451\" height=\"393\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-197127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Adwoa Safo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She lost to the New Patriotic Party&#8217;s (NPP) candidate,\u00a0Sarah Adwoa Safo in that election.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Adwoa Safo polled\u00a063.75% of the votes, while Ackuaku had\u00a035.58%.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Ackuaku ditches Dome-Kwabenya for Obom-Domeabra<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Madam Ackuaku subsequently ditched the Dome-Kwabenya for the\u00a0Domeabra-Obom constituency.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In an interview with journalists, Sophia Ackuaku said: \u00a0\u201cI decided to contest Obom-Domeabra because I think that is where I\u2019m currently needed. I know that constituency very well\u2026my grandfather has a village there called Ackuakukope and I know the level of deprivation there. I have seen it myself and now I think it is time to serve my people with the little experience I have acquired over the years in public service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Many people have asked why I\u2019m not contesting Dome-Kwabenya because looking at the work I\u2019ve done there and my performance in the 2012 elections, I can win the seat for the NDC in 2016\u2026I believe I can win Dome-Kwabenya for NDC, but there comes a time where you have to weigh where your impacts will be felt most, and I firmly believe that the people of Obom-Domeabra need me,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Godwin A.
