President John Dramani Mahama has called on Ghanaians to rise up to the task of nation building thrust upon all by the country’s founding fathers as Ghana celebrates 59 years of independence.<\/p>\n
Ghana\u2019s 59th Independence Day which was celebrated under the theme \u201cInvesting in the Youth for Ghana\u2019s Transformation\u201d, was observed at a parade at the Black Star Square on Sunday March, 6.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”nHRzwb4i8GGCwXmTIzrQBGFWIgCt6sBq”]Addressing the conuntry\u00a0at the Black Star square, President Mahama noted that every Ghanaian has a role to play in Ghana’s development.<\/p>\n
“The successes and failure of this nation belongs to all to us because this country is for all of us and we can each choose to play a role no matter how seemingly minor in moving our dear\u00a0nation forward.”<\/p>\n
He charged Ghanaians to commit fully to to the development of Ghana saying,\u00a0“We must invest ourselves not only in the achievements our nation has chalked but also in the challenges because each of us is the face of Ghana.”<\/p>\n
According to the President, the political, social and religious diversity in national discourse, must be used to foster peace and unity for development.<\/p>\n
“We will have our differing political views on the best way to do that work, but we must use those discussions to strengthen who we are as one nation.”<\/p>\n
President Mahama further condemned all rhetoric that he said sought to discourage Ghanaians and hamper unity.<\/p>\n
“We cannot encourage conversations and activities that are meant to discourage us, divide us or weaken our morale or limit our potential in this particular moment,'” he stated.<\/p>\n
